Extensions:

• after extending, the target page should be refreshed with the bottom of the page visible
• the pop-up window should be 66% of it current width
• the text entry field should span all the way across the window (remove the word "Comments")
  
• the text entry field should be twice its current height
• It would be nice if the user had more flexibility at text entry time
  
• resizing could change the size and shape of the text entry field
  
• there was a scroll bar so that large extensions could be typed and seen
  
• The name-field label should be "name (optional)"

The easiest way to contribute to the authoring of an open web page it to provide text that will be added to it, an extension of the page.  Extensions should follow the usual guidelines for open page authoring, including respecting (or creating) the page's ambition statement and the expectation that your contribution will be refactored by subsequent author/editors.  To extend this page, type your extension into the field below and click "submit".  To learn how to author open web pages more flexibly than is possible with extensions, see "Edit this Page".

• Below the entry field should be the following message:
• Your extension should be plain text or simple html such as links, breaks, or italics.  Blank lines will produce corresponding paragraphs.  Your extension will be separated from other extensions by a gray line above and below.  The time of your extension and your name (if provided) will appear in a similarly unobtrusive way.  (Of course you could also just sign your extension in the text.)
• Next to the Extend/Submit button should be this warning:
• Just before submitting your extension, we recommend you copy it (in the sense of cut and paste, e.g., Command-C) so that if the submission process fails for some reason you can paste your text back into a safe place.

More on extensions:

• When the pop-up window appears, the cursor should already be in the text field, so that text can be typed immediately.  This is important!
• Extension time stamps/names seem not to work at the moment.  they look like this:

• The after-submission situation could be improved.  Is there any way we can make the refresh automatic?  Failing that, can we get a smaller window with, in place of the current "Content-type:text/html Your comment has been added. Please reload your page" the message "Thank you for your extension.  Close this window and reload the target page to see it."

• There should should be a 4th link on the first line of the bottom material: "Creating new pages".  That page should explain that you just try to access them and they are created. DONE
  
• The message when you try to access a page that does not yet exist should be:
• Welcome to <URL of the non-existent page>.  This page does not yet exist.  If you would like to create it, just extend or edit this page in the usual way.  If you extend it, the first extension will replace this welcome message such that your text will be the first thing on the page.  Remember the guidelines.  You might want to begin your page with "The ambition of this web page is...".
